Why opt for Halaal accommodation

Halaal meaning permissible is a set of laws the governs a Muslims lifestyle.

In the travel industry, the most common Halaal related issues would be food and alcohol and while that sounds like a simple issue it is a fairly complex one.

We won’t delve into the complexities of the matter but I’ll try to give you some reasons why Muslim travellers should opt for Halaal accommodation instead.

Food

The first thing that comes to most peoples minds when the word Halaal is mentioned is Food. A Halaal establishment such as a BnB or Hotel would offer Halaal food through their room service or restaurant where Muslim clients can dine with peace of mind that what they are consuming is Halaal.

Even though a non-Halaal establishment would have fish or vegan-only meals on their menu which, by its nature is Halaal the fact that these items are prepared in the same kitchen as non-Halaal items would render them doubtful for consumption.

Kitchen Utensils

The utensils used to prepare or serve food in a mixed Halaal / non-Halaal establishment would also render the food doubtful according to many scholars. Also, it is common practice to store all Halaal and non-Halaal product in the same fridge or cold room. This opens up the risk of cross-contamination. In a strictly Halaal only kitchen there is no risk of this happening as everything on the menu is Halaal.

Muslim Environment

Generally, most Halaal accommodation establishments are frequented by Muslim travellers. This makes for a Halaal friendly environment. Women covered in Niqab feel more comfortable around Muslims. You would also find modesty among sexes are more prominent and no loud music or drunk people are present. Overall this makes for a pleasant stay.

Other factors to also consider are dedicated wudhu facilities, Istinja facilities and a prayer room which could be found at some Halaal establishments.
