Cape Malay Accommodation

in Western Cape

You’ll find us literally tucked away like a hidden gem in a quiet cul-de-sac in one of the older neighborhoods of the Cape Flats. This neighborhood boasts a rich history and a diverse community stemming from various backgrounds—interconnected through family, friendship, religion, and shared struggles endured in both the past and present. There’s no better way to experience Cape Town culture than to be immersed among its people.

Mitchells Plain was established by the apartheid government in the 1970s as a designated area for colored people, but it has since transformed into a welcoming abode for many immigrant communities.

At Cape Malay Accommodation, you’ll have a double room for two, complete with a private kitchenette, bathroom, sitting room, and off-street parking, along with the option to add an additional single room. You will also be close to a well-maintained botanical garden, often frequented by families, joggers, and other nature enthusiasts. Here, you can enjoy picnic spots with a view of a beautiful rose garden and a chance to witness an age-old Cape Malay tradition: usually on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, wedding parties arrive in all their splendor, having a professional photographer capture their colorful wedding attire amidst the scenery—a heartwarming spectacle.

The area is also home to more than 20 masajid, each with its own rich history and well worth a visit. There are two shopping malls, at least two smaller shopping centers, and many halal restaurants nearby. A short drive away, you’ll find the False Bay coastline, the Wolfgat Nature Reserve, Surfers Corner, and the renowned Muizenberg Sunday informal trading market—also known as the “flea market.” The Cape Malays were celebrated for their craftsmanship as artisans, carpenters, tailors, bakers, among other talents, and sold many of their home-produced goods at this market and others like it.

We hope that our guests leave Cape Malay Accommodation with a positive experience of the Cape Flats and many warm, fond memories to cherish.
